Mr. Chimezie Chuta, the Vice Chairman of BICCoN, represented the committee at the just concluded maiden edition of the Mariblock Conference 2024, held at the Nordic Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, on December 12, 2024. Themed “Empowering African Innovation with Stablecoins,” The event, which convened blockchain enthusiasts, developers, and regulators, provided an excellent platform for BICCoN to reaffirm its commitment to fostering a pro-regulation blockchain environment in Nigeria.
Mr. Chuta participated in a fireside chat where he engaged the audience on critical issues such as BICCoN’s role in ensuring a safe crypto landscape, ongoing efforts under the National Blockchain Policy (NBP), and the importance of self-regulation within the blockchain space. He assured participants that holding, trading, and exchanging virtual assets is not criminalized under the current Nigerian legal framework. However, he highlighted the need to use blockchain technology ethically and legally, avoiding activities that undermine public trust or economic stability.
