BICCON PUSHES FOR REGULATORY REFORM AND STRONGER PARTNERSHIP WITH EFCC TO COMBAT CRYPTO FRAUD

On July 10, 2025, the Blockchain Industry Coordinating Committee of Nigeria (BICCoN) participated in a public engagement hosted by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the EFCC in commemoration of African Anti-Corruption Day.

During the session, BICCoN, led by Chairman Mr. Lucky Uwakwe and Head of Legal Mr. Senator Ihenyen, delivered a bold message advocating for a more structured partnership with the EFCC. Key demands included the establishment of a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EFCC, a review of Kucoin’s 7.5% VAT on Nigerians, the lifting of blanket crypto platform bans, and the creation of a dedicated EFCC crypto desk for timely collaboration.

BICCoN also emphasized the need for a multi-agency coordination point and offered continued support for law enforcement through early industry intelligence on fraudulent activities.

We commend the EFCC for their openness and readiness to collaborate and look forward to seeing these proposals move from dialogue to action.
